"I think it is an error when people spell the genus Schlimia, though Dressler and others have done so. I think the problem is that the genus Schlimia (author Regel in 1875) is in the Gentianaceae, the Gentian Family. The genus Schlimmia (authors Planch. & Linden ex Lindl., 1852) is the orchid. I am guessing one was named after Schlim (perhaps Jean Schlim, half-brother of Jean Linden) and the other after Schlimm (if such a person exists). It is easy to see how one misspelling could lead to another since the genus Schlimia does () exist. Index Kewensis has the orchid as Schlimmia, as does the Missouri Botanical Garden."
